Infamous as the only U.S. president to resign, Richard Nixon’s name is synonymous with the Watergate Scandal. Nixon became a congressman in 1946 and a senator in 1950. He served as vice-president under Eisenhower and lost the presidential race to Kennedy in ’61. In 1968 he was elected president. He withdrew from Vietnam, established détente with the Soviets, and made contact with China. During his second term as 37th U.S. president, reporters uncovered a web of political corruption in the White House.
